Traffic calming for the Esplanade - Port Noarlunga and Christies Beach

Update

It certainly has been a trying time lately with our IT issues during December/January and now Covid-19. To add to this, we have had a significant number of staff departures and changes and this has delayed our response time.

Please rest assured that we will share the outcomes of the engagement as soon as we can and thank you for your patience.

We hope you are all staying safe.

Background

We are currently reviewing the existing traffic calming schemes along the Esplanade - Saltfleet Street, Port Noarlunga to Beach Road, Christies Beach, and Sydney Crescent in Christies Beach.

Both locations incorporate a series of speed cushions which were installed in 2006 to improve safety for residents, pedestrians and motorists by calming traffic and reducing vehicle speeds.

These speed cushions are now deteriorating and nearing the end of their useful asset life, with many of them impacting on the road surface and pavement below. Further to this, observations have highlighted that these devices are becoming less effective in reducing speed and calming traffic.

As such, we have coordinated a detailed traffic study and developed concept designs aimed at replacing the existing traffic arrangements in order to better manage traffic, reduce vehicle speed and allow for improvements to pedestrian safety.

View the Concept Plans for each location.

Have your Say

We sought feedback from the community before progressing the plans. We held a drop-in information session in November and provided an online feedback option.

Consultation closed Monday 2 December 2019.
