EXCITING NEWS - design of the Morton Road Sports and Community Hub Christie Downs underway

The City of Onkaparinga is working with the local community, state government and the Roger Rasheed Sports Foundation (RRSF) to transform Morton Road Reserve in Christie Downs into a sports and recreation hub.

With $1.5M funding contributions from the City of Onkaparinga and State Government and a further $100,000 from the RRSF, we have funding required for an exciting $3.1M first stage of the project which will deliver a great place for play and skate and adventure.

The Sports and Community Hub will deliver a skate park, multi-use tennis/netball court, adventure play space, seating, shelters, barbecue facilities, a basketball node, irrigated lawn areas, and toilets.

But there is more to do, with several elements still to be funded to deliver on the larger vision and opportunity.

The Roger Rasheed Sports Foundation provides free sports coaching and mentoring programs for children from disadvantaged backgrounds and needs the right facilities to do this. We are working with the Foundation to look at ways we can fund more facilities that will expand these sports and mentoring programs, so we can reach more children through sport.

Elements that are yet to be funded include three tennis courts, lighting to extend the park’s hours of use, outdoor exercise equipment and a running track.

Over the next few months we will be working on the design of Morton Road Sports and Community Hub and will be asking for feedback as the design progresses, so watch this space. We are aiming to start construction early in 2021.

The Morton Road Concept Plan is being used to guide the design. If you would like to comment on this Concept Plan, please leave your feedback below.
