Clarendon Recreation Ground -Pathway and Lighting Upgrade

The pathway and lighting at the Clarendon Recreation Ground on Nicolle Road, Clarendon was initially identified for an upgrade this financial year.

Latest update

An on-site meeting between Council staff and a contractor held on 22 May has determined that due to the unseasonable heavy rains during May, the plant and equipment required to commence tree removal from along the edge of the path will significantly damage the oval.

To avoid this damage we have no alternative but to postpone works until the oval dries out, potentially in late spring 2019. We will continue to assess the situation in case a window of opportunity opens.

We will continue to keep the community informed about the project here on the Your Say page.

Design features

The pathway and lighting upgrade will include:

  • Upgrade to the pathway from the pavilion through to the tennis and netball courts
  • Install new lighting to assist with visibility, particularly during winter months
  • Clearing of pines trees, particularly from the slope below the path to open up views and improve natural surveillance for path users
  • Selective thinning of pines trees on the north east (higher side) of pathway
  • Landscape upgrade plan to be developed and the works to be undertaken in the planting season between May-October.

An outcome from this project was an assessment of the pine trees to the lower and upper part of pathway. The assessment has confirmed that removal of some trees is required and will be completed as part of the upgrade.

Pathway access to the netball/tennis courts and amenities will be affected during construction and signage will be installed to guide court users to the use of alternate routes during this time.
