Draft Inclusive Communities Action Plan 2021-24

We are excited to let you know that the Strategic Directions Committee adopted our Inclusive Communities Action Plan 2021-2024.

We recently took the draft plan out to community consultation. What we heard was 78 per cent of respondents were either happy or very happy with the plan and 87.5 per cent of respondents agreed that the plan reflects the needs of our community.

In responding to feedback received, we made some changes to the plan which adds value to our direction.


This includes:

  • Noted the top five priorities from the consultation within the plan. These priorities were footpath accessibility, the need for multiple communication methods, general accessibility around our city, friendly and welcoming customer service and affordable services and programs
  • Modified some actions include demonstrating an increased focus on affordable programs and services, providing clarity of the intent of the Better Access and Better Business inclusive guide and recognising the work of the ON Business program
  • Consideration of our customer experience and engagement frameworks to include a core component working with people with disability

    We want our region to be accessible, inclusive and welcoming to all and are working with our community to make sure that everyone has a voice and can make decisions about things that matter most to them.

    The Disability Inclusion Act, 2018 (SA) requires all councils to produce a Disability Access and Inclusion Plan.

    Our disability access and inclusion plan, known as the Inclusive Communities Action Plan aligns with the themes set out in the State Disability Inclusion Plan 2019-2023.

    These themes are:

    • Inclusive communities for all
    • Leadership and collaboration
    • Accessible communities
    • Learning and employment

    The draft plan was informed through community engagement with the Disability Regional Network, the Disability Inclusion Reference Group and the broader community.

    We welcomed comments on the Inclusive Communities Action Plan 2021-24 and the Inclusive Communities Action Plan Actions until 1 November 2020. We also created an Easy Read Plan.
