Draft Tourism Strategic Plan 2019-23


Tourism Strategic Plan 2019-23 Adopted

The Tourism Strategic Plan 2019-23 was endorsed by Council on 17 September 2019.

Through implementing the plan, the City of Onkaparinga aims to increase visitor expenditure to a total of $300million in 2023. This is to be achieved by increasing day visitation and expenditure, as well as securing a greater share of overnight visitors to South Australia.

This will be enabled by focussing activities on a series of strategic pillars:

  • Leadership, partnerships and coordination
  • Marketing
  • Experience development and capacity building
  • Place and precinct
  • Visitor servicing
  • Tourism investment attraction

Over 820 stakeholders participated and contributed to the drafting of the plan through a range of engagement activities.

Community Engagement

Feedback was sought on the draft plan through an 11 week public consultation period (November 2018 – January 2019), with the following key results:

86% support for the draft tourism plan which included written support from:

  • Federal Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Senator Simon Birmingham
  • State Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment David Ridgway MLC
  • South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC)

Top 3 key benefits of tourism to our city

  1. Important economic benefits for our community and local businesses
  2. Attract events and festival to our City
  3. Encourages new infrastructure

Top 3 strategic priorities for the plan:

  1. Supporting local tourism businesses to grow and develop
  2. Tourism investment attraction
  3. Visitor servicing including the VIC.
