Road Reconstruction and Flood Protection - Pethick Road McLaren Vale

Work has commenced

We have begun work to reduce flooding along a section of Pethick Road McLaren Vale.

During the construction period, the road is required to be closed.

We anticipate the work will take approximately two months to complete (by the end of November).

Work will normally be undertaken between 7am - 5pm Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays, however there may be some weekend work, but this will be avoided wherever possible.

The project aims to:

  • Reduce the flooding of the road
  • Address local issues that the road’s crown is too high, impeding the water flow crossing over the road resulting vineyard flooding
  • Provide safety for road users

Background

Pethick road is constructed across a large swamp which has a large rural catchment of over 25km squared. The road is regularly flooded creating inconveniences to commuters.

The adjacent vineyard to the swamp also spends some time under water due to a combination of the slightly elevated road across the swamp and the heavy vegetation build-up in the swamp. The causes water to stagnate and reduces water movement down stream.

Feedback

We welcomed feedback and/or local knowledge on the Concept Plan.
