Why is this park being upgraded?

The playground, seating and irrigation system at the park on Gerald Court, Christie Downs have reached the end of their asset life and have been identified for an upgrade.

    How are our parks planned?

Our Open Space Strategic Management Plan 2018-23 (OSSMP) guides the development of our reserves - the plan can be viewed here

This park has been identified by the OSSMP as a Neighbourhood Family Park. Neighbourhood Family parks are designed for stays of 1-2 hours.

Our open space network can be viewed here - the interactive map shows each reserve and their category as determined by the OSSMP. The left-hand column explains each category type and the level of service provided for that category

What is planned for this park?

We anticipate the work will include:

    • upgrade of the playground suitable for up to 12 years of age
    • upgrade of the irrigation system
    • inclusion of pathway network
    • minor landscape improvements
    • new seating and picnic furniture
    • rejuvenated basketball area with hopscotch for multi-use

Please refer to the concept plan for more details.

What infrastructure will not be included in the upgrade?

Lighting, fencing and BBQ facilities are outside of our service level for Neighbourhood Family Parks and will not be included in the upgrade plans for Gerald Court.

Can we have skate park and/or a BMX track built here?

A skate park or BMX track is outside of the scope of this project.

    Will a toilet be included?

A toilet will not be included in this project as it is outside of the service standard for a Neighbourhood Family Park. Toilets are only included for significantly larger District and Regional playgrounds.

Will shade sails over the playground equipment be included?

Shade sails will not be included in this project as it is outside of the service standard for a Neighbourhood Family Park. The proposed play platform has partial shade included and there are trees on site for natural shade.

    What happens to my feedback?

We will collate all the feedback received and review common themes and identify how ideas fit in line with the service standard for this park. This information will be placed into a feedback report that will direct the final design of this park. While we may be unable to provide everything asked for by the community, your feedback is important and will help us understand community priorities. Over the next few weeks we will compile feedback and complete the final design of the reserve in conjunction with feedback received. Once the final design has been developed, we will update the Your Say page for you to see.

How is this upgrade being funded?

The upgrade is being funded through the Project and Capital Works program in 2021-22, pending budget allocation.
