Library Service Review

Consultation has concluded

On 7 August 2018 the Onkaparinga Libraries Strategic Management Plan was approved following extensive community engagement with more than 1,300 residents and council staff. This valued community feedback has helped to formulate the 3-year plan to ensure that all six of our libraries at Aberfoyle Park, Aldinga, Noarlunga, Seaford, Willunga and Woodcroft will continue to enrich our community and respond to local needs.

We will focus on:

  • Providing information and guidance
  • Fostering social connection and wellbeing
  • Enhancing the use of library spaces and places
  • Activating community knowledge and learning
  • Building on positive partnerships
  • Supporting our local economy

Thanks to everyone that participated in helping to shape the future of our libraries by having your say!

BACKGROUND

We recently completed a service review of our six libraries. The objective was to ensure all six libraries continue to meet current community needs and are best placed to respond to broader trends that are changing the definition of what libraries offer in the future.

At a Council meeting on 20 February 2018, elected members approved the development of a Libraries Strategic Management Plan to be informed by community engagement.

ENGAGEMENT

Phase one of community engagement was undertaken, with more than 1300 residents and council staff taking part.

The engagement findings and draft strategic directions were presented to elected members at a briefing and workshop on 1 May. The workshop sought feedback from elected members about the draft strategic directions’ alignment with community expectations, and their level of support for the direction. The majority of elected members indicated support for the draft strategic directions and feedback has been incorporated into the draft Libraries SMP.

The strategic directions form part of the draft Libraries SMP. The strategic directions framework:

  • aligns the libraries’ strategic direction with Onkaparinga 2035
  • incorporates the priority areas of focus drawn from phase one of engagement
  • articulates what will be maintained, what will be changed, and the outcome we expect to see as a result.

Findings will inform a report to be presented to Council’s Strategic Directions Committee in August 2018, which will seek final approval for the Libraries SMP.

We will come back to the community with the final report as soon as it becomes available.
