Latest Update

Thank you to everyone who has provided their feedback through the surveys and/or participated in the workshops for this planning review. Your feedback is appreciated as it has enabled us to understand your views and vision for McLaren Vale and resulted in a successful engagement outcome for us to now propose some recommended policy changes to the current planning rules in McLaren Vale.

The proposed policy changes within the township boundaries of McLaren Vale (not the rural areas) are seeking to protect character and improve liveability, sensitively manage development, and encourage investment. The review will not change the township boundaries as defined by the McLaren Vale Character Preservation District.

We asked our communities to help shape the future vision of McLaren Vale by providing feedback to inform any potential future policy revisions – the results of this feedback and subsequent proposed policy changes are provided in the Discussion Paper, Summary of Community Engagement Report, the Policy Recommendations Report, Council and Committee reports and minutes.

Council will now prepare a ‘Proposal to Initiate’ for a Code Amendment based on the suggested policy responses in the Policy Recommendations Report and commence discussions with the State Government prior to the commencement of the Code Amendment process. A report to council will be prepared on the content of the Proposal to Initiate and if approved, further investigations will be undertaken and a Code Amendment prepared. We have created a separate page this project. Please click here to find out more.

The community will then have an additional opportunity to provide feedback on the Code Amendment. We estimate this process to commence in early 2023 and take approximately 12 months depending upon the nature of changes proposed, community feedback and the response from the state government.
