Naming options for park on Archer Street, Christies Beach

Consultation has concluded

The park on Archer Street has been formally named Peters Park, effective from 16 April 2019.

The new name is in recognition of the family’s long history in the neighbourhood and contribution to the park over the decades.

An article about the naming of the park has been published in the Autumn edition of Onkaparinga Now.

Public notices have been published in the Advertiser and Government Gazette, and place name signs will soon be installed in the park.

Background

From 30 July to 13 August 2018 we sought name suggestions from the community for the park on Archer Street. In all we received 17 suggestions (9 of them unique), and the names were assessed against the criteria in our Place Naming Policy (refer section 6).

All suggestions were presented to Council for consideration at their meeting on 6 November (refer to the document library for a copy of the report).

Council approved eight place names to be presented to the community for feedback before they make a final decision on the formal name for the park:

  • Archer Street Park
  • Burke & Wills Park
  • Dalebrook Park
  • Doris Crain Park
  • Kaurna Park
  • Peters Park
  • Purdell Park
  • Purton Park

From 12-26 November 2018 feedback was sought from the community on the eight name options. This input was collated and presented in a report to a committee of Council in April 2019 to help to inform Council’s decision.

Please identify your preferred name(s) for the park. You can select as many options as you like, and each of your selections will count as one equal 'vote' for that selected name. Council will consider the community's feedback in their decision making process.
