Quarry Road, Old Noarlunga - Project Cancelled

Consultation has concluded

PROJECT CANCELLED

The Quarry Road half road closure project, previously proposed for the western end of Quarry Road in Old Noarlunga, has now been cancelled.

We recently sought feedback regarding the project and received many significant concerns about traffic potentially being diverted to the intersection of Seaview and Victor Harbor Roads. In response to this feedback, we placed the project on hold pending further discussions with the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) given this intersection is under their care, control and management. We also forwarded these community concerns onto DPTI.

We have since engaged with DPTI to determine their future plans for improving the Seaview and Victor Harbor Roads intersection and timing for the duplication of Victor Harbor Road.

The Australian Government recently announced $73.6 million of funding for the duplication of Victor Harbor Road between Main South Road and McLaren Vale, linking to the McLaren Vale overpass. Details relating to this project can be found via their website.

Given that the duplication works is likely to be a few years away, we will continue to work with DPTI to explore other interim solutions that may improve road safety for this intersection, as well as any other relevant road network issues (including Quarry Road) for this section of Victor Harbor Road.

For further details relating to DPTI’s plans for Victor Harbor Road, please contact them on 1300 794 880 or dpti.communityrelations@sa.gov.au.

We have listened to your feedback and decided to delay the half road closure project for Quarry Road.

We have been planning a permanent half road closure to the western end of Quarry Road where it intersects with Victor Harbor Road. These changes will significantly reduce the likelihood of crashes and improve road safety at this dangerous intersection.

We understand there are concerns about diverting local traffic to the intersection of Seaview Road and Victor Harbor Road. This intersection is under the care, control and management of the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI). They are currently investigating options...

We understand there are concerns about diverting local traffic to the intersection of Seaview Road and Victor Harbor Road. This intersection is under the care, control and management of the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI). They are currently investigating options to improve the right turn movement out of Seaview Road onto Victor Harbor Road for heavy vehicles. We are advised these improvements are currently unfunded, and no timeframes have been given for implementation.

Delaying the Quarry Road project will allow us to undertake further discussions with DPTI in relation to their future plans for improving the Seaview / Victor Harbor Roads intersection.

If you wish to clarify any details relating to the Seaview Road / Victor Harbor Road intersection, please contact the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure

    • Potential speeds along Victor Harbor Road.
    • Downhill slope on the northbound traffic.
    • Change of speed zone on Victor Harbour Road at the intersection from 60km/hr to 80km/hr

In order to address these issues we are planning a half road closure project to reduce the likelihood of crashes and improve the safety at this intersection.

The implementation of a permanent half road closure will restrict traffic movement to a left-turn only, into Quarry Road from Victor Harbor Road. All other movements at this intersection will no longer be allowed, including egress from Quarry Road onto Victor Harbor Road. Access to Victor Harbor Road will now be via the Seaview Road / Victor Harbor Road intersection.

The following traffic movements will no longer be allowed:

    • West bound traffic movements from Quarry Road onto Victor Harbor Road and
    • Right turn movements, when travelling north bound from Victor Harbor Road into Quarry road.
