Affordable Housing Strategy adopted

30 April 2026

Council resolved at it’s meeting on Tuesday 28 April 2026 to adopt the revised Affordable Housing Strategy.

At its core, the Strategy prioritises affordability and liveability, ensuring our city continues to be a great place to live as our community grows into the future.

The Strategy focuses on increasing housing options to meet the needs of people on different incomes and at different stages of life. It includes 31 actions, with a strong emphasis on Council’s advocacy role - particularly in seeking increased housing investment from state and federal governments and encouraging more housing diversity. The Strategy also includes actions to explore levers council may have to encourage affordable housing in our area, such as partnering with Community Housing Organisations, promoting the benefits of more energy efficient homes, and developing a clear decision-making framework for assessing the suitability of sites for potential housing opportunities.
