The Aldinga Soldiers War Monument is located between Main South Road and Stonehouse Lane, Aldinga and commemorates those killed in action in WW1 and WW2.

The duplication of Main South Road (MSR) from Seaford to Sellicks Beach will impact the Aldinga Soldiers’ Monument in its current location. A site for relocation of the memorial was identified as part of Aldinga Sports Park Master Plan.

Members of the local community identified a desire for the monument be relocated to improve accessibility and safety. Relocation of the war monument presents an opportunity to create a new and more appropriate memorial space to commemorate local servicemen and women in the region.

Community Working Group

A community working group has been established to guide this process. The working group members have guided development of a concept plan for a new memorial space to honour and commemorate service men and women of Aldinga region.

The working group includes local veterans, relatives of Glen Crisp, named on the monument, sporting and other community representatives.

This site will commemorate local returned service men and women from all conflicts, and First Nations people that have served. The relocation of an existing flag pole from the Aldinga Institute Building will be included as part of the design, which has links to Glen Crisp, a fallen WW1 soldier named on the monument.

There will also be opportunity to acknowledge renowned local war artist Sir Ivor Hele, in a form supported by the RSL State Branch.

Concept Plan

Council staff have developed this concept plan with input from the Community Working Group to ensure that the requirements are met for the space to function as a commemorative place for events such as ANZAC and Remembrance Days and as a place for contemplation.
