Engagement outcomes

Throughout the engagement 126 people visited the Your Say page, and 10 local businesses were visited. Feedback was received from 21 individuals.

The written feedback provided via the Your Say page was mostly positive, with 81% supportive of the proposed project. All staff members of the five businesses that we met with were supportive.

Many of the comments received indicated support for the project and/or for the provision of safer pedestrian crossings in general, as well as the improved safety for children and families.

Some queries were received regarding the design and location of the crossing and whether there will be any impact to on-street parking. The proposed crossing location is an ideal distance from the roundabout at the Esplanade, and will also regulate traffic speeds adjacent to Rotary Park, which often hosts events involving the gathering of large groups of people. The design will not result in the loss of any on-street car parking spaces.

The concept plan has now been finalised without any changes.

Construction of the crossing is currently expected in 2025 after the busy summer holiday period. All efforts will be made to minimise disruption to nearby businesses, residents and visitors to the area during construction.

Further updates about the construction process and timing will be provided prior to any works commencing.
