Background Information

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) is upgrading the O’Sullivan Beach Boat Ramp.

The project, funded as part of the State government’s Marine Stimulus Package will improve the operational use of the site by reducing congestion during peak periods and improving access and safety for launching boats.

Work will include:

  • construction of an additional boat ramp lane and pontoon reducing wait times at the facility;
  • replacing and upgrading the current four-lane boat ramp launching facility, inclusive of the two existing pontoons and pontoon guide piles;
  • widening of the vehicle manoeuvring area to improve access and safety for launching boats;
  • undertaking protection works to extend the structural integrity and serviceable life of the facility; and
  • improved disability access to a ramp and pontoons

To ensure the closure period of the boat ramp facility is kept to a minimum, detailed design of the pontoons and pilings, and pre-fabrication of materials will be undertaken offsite during March 2023.

On site construction is scheduled to commence in late April 2023 with project completion expected in late 2023, weather permitting.

Timing of the upgrade has been planned to avoid the peak summer period and to minimise disruption to the community and boat users as much as possible.

To enable works to be completed safely and as quickly as possible, the O’Sullivan Beach Boat Ramp and main carpark will be temporarily closed for recreational use from late April 2023 until project completion.

Boat ramp access will be maintained for emergency services if required.
