Since presenting the updated Clarendon Recreation Ground Masterplan in January 2022 we have completed the preparation and planting of the oval embankment and will continue to monitor the growth of the hydroseeding and maintain this though the approaching summer weather.

Plans for the reconstruction of the tennis courts, the upper parking area and the picnic area behind the pavilion will be issued For Tender over the coming weeks with construction proposed to be undertaken over the summer months. Timing of construction will be dependent on contractor availability and the supply of materials once contractors have been engaged.

The works will be programmed to minimise disruption to residents and visitors with alternative, suitable parking arrangements to be arranged as required.

Prior to construction, council’s Urban Forest team will remove dead trees and fallen vegetation along the fence line of #39 Nicolle Road to the north of the unsealed carpark and will trim trees over the upper courts to prevent pinecones and pine needles littering the surface.

The Chinese Elm in the north west corner of the courts will be pruned to allow for construction of the new court surface, fence and lighting. This tree has been assessed by council’s arborist and is expected to survive the necessary disturbance to its root system during construction.

We will plant shade tolerant shrub species to screen the fence of #39 Nicolle Road on completion of the works. Large bluestone boulders will also be installed along the fence as part of the works to protect the fence and vegetation from errant vehicles.

The large tree stump in the lower carpark that was identified on the evening of the engagement session will removed as part of the work and give way signs have been installed at the intersection of Nicolle & Oval Roads following Community concerns.

We will be commencing design for the bottom netball & tennis courts in 2025-26 with construction currently planned for 2026-27.
