Here's what we heard

We engaged the community from 25 March to 16 April 2025 through multiple channels, including letters, emails, on-site signage, and an advertisement in The Advertiser. Feedback was invited through various methods; online, by email or phone, and in person.

Throughout the engagement period, over 240 people visited the Your Say page, resulting in 43 contributions:

  • 21 provided feedback through the survey
  • 19 provided feedback via the quick poll
  • 3 people provided feedback via email

Feedback resulted in 22 participants supporting the proposal and 14 not supporting the proposal. Four participants had nothing to say and three were unsure about the proposal.

  • Those in support of the proposal said...

    • it could boost Council’s financial stability and address housing needs.
    • sell the land at maximum value, ideally with development approvals to increase returns.
    • enhance nearby areas through beautification projects involving local schools.
    • there’s a need for greater investment in upgrading local community facilities.
    • Questions about sale proceeds, with calls to reduce Council debt rather than fund only renewals.
  • Those not in support the proposal said...

    Those not in support said.....

    • value the space for recreation, play, dog walking, and social connection.
    • concerned about losing green space, more traffic, lower property values, and high-density impacts on neighbourhood character.
    • poor past maintenance, the land should be upgraded and kept for future generations, not sold for short-term gain.
    • why not preserve it as green space, build a playground, or enhance it for the public and environmental benefit.

Those who were unsure also provided feedback:

  • why not keep the land for community use, like a park, reserve, or revegetation?
  • fear that sale proceeds would vanish into general revenue without visible local benefit.
  • funds should be used for clear, nearby improvements.
  • concerns regarding nearby property upkeep, construction noise, and communication, especially for vulnerable households.
  • questions about future use: affordable housing, public sale, or recreation like a dog park or playground.
