Project outcomes

At the council meeting on 15 July 2025, Council considered all community feedback on the Community Land Management Plan – Community, Social and Affordable Housing and the proposal to grant a long-term lease over a portion of Skoda Street Reserve, Port Willunga for the development of community, social and affordable rental housing.

After debate in the chamber and motions being put and lost, the decision was set aside.

This means council did not reach a decision to proceed with the proposed Skoda Street lease.

Regarding community feedback, while there’s strong support for affordable housing in principle, this particular site was not seen as the right location by some members of the community.

The result demonstrates to council a need to build greater understanding about what affordable housing really means today, including who it’s for, how it’s managed, and the support structures in place.

Council remains committed to identifying more suitable sites across the city and working with partners like St Vincent De Paul and the state government to deliver well-planned, supported and community-backed housing solutions.
