At its meeting on 28 April 2026, Council resolved to enter into a lease for a term of up to 15 years (5 + 5 + 5 years) with the Kangarilla Recreation Ground Committee Inc. Council staff will now progress the long-term lease arrangements with the Kangarilla Recreation Ground Committee Inc.

During the engagement there were 364 visits to the Your Say page resulting in 93 contributions. One email was also received.

Of the contributions, 78 were in support of the proposal, and 2 did not support the proposal.

Key messages from submissions supporting the proposal include:

  • The Kangarilla Recreation Grounds are widely valued as a central hub that fosters community connection, supports local clubs, and provides well-maintained facilities for both everyday use and events
  • Highlights the importance of the grounds in sustaining a vibrant, growing semi-rural community, while recognising the role of Council support and investment in maintaining these assets
  • There is strong backing for the proposed long-term lease as a practical and appropriate use of the property, with some suggesting flexible or ongoing tenure arrangements
  • It was also noted that Council fee structures should better reflect the smaller population and rural context rather than applying a uniform metropolitan pricing model.

Background information

Kangarilla Recreation Ground Committee Incorporated have requested a long-term lease for the continued use of the Kangarilla Recreation Ground located at 1987 Kangarilla Road, Kangarilla.

Kangarilla Recreation Ground is a key community sporting facility located approximately 35 kilometres south of Adelaide, supporting year-round use by multiple local sporting clubs. The central oval is home to the Kangarilla Football Club, which has a long-standing history in the community and currently competes in the Hills Football League, as well as the Kangarilla Cricket Club during the summer season. The facility also accommodates the Kangarilla Tennis Club and Kangarilla Netball Club, with the netball club competing in the Southern Hills Netball Association.

Recent facility upgrades have enhanced the functionality and amenity of the recreation ground, supporting continued participation, volunteer involvement, and community use. Collectively, the resident clubs maintain an active membership base and reinforce the recreation ground’s role as a focal point for organised sport and community connection within Kangarilla and the surrounding district.

At its February 2025 meeting, Council approved entering into long-term lease agreements for our multi-use sporting facilities, subject to the required Public Consultation process under Section 202 of the Local Government Act 1999. We are seeking to enter into a long-term lease agreement, structured as three (3) consecutive five (5) year terms.

The granting of long-term lease will support the continued use of the land in line with Council’s Community Land Management Plan for Sportsgrounds, District and General Community Areas, Service and Social Facilities.
