We’re committed to maintaining, operating, and renewing our roads to ensure they meet the community’s needs. Regular work, including our Road Reconstruction Program, is vital to keeping our road network safe and reliable.

We are planning to reconstruct Malbeck Drive, Reynella East between the eastern intersection with Reynell Road and Merlot Street to address significant pavement defects, improve drainage and replace identified damaged sections of kerbing. This work is required to address pavement failure, preventing further deterioration of the pavement layers and ensure the road remains fit for purpose.

In addition, the kerbing associated with the existing pedestrian crossing will be upgraded to conform with current design standards.

This project will involve a full granular road reconstruction to improve road conditions, quality, and longevity. The project will also include the surface renewal from Merlot Street to just past Braeside Avenue.

Key works include:

  • Reconstructing the road surface to match existing road widths of typically 10.6 - 10.8m between kerbs.
  • Replacement of kerb and gutter to improve drainage and where damaged sections have been identified.
  • Upgrade of existing side entry pits to increase stormwater capture.
  • Modification to road widths to meet current design standards in the vicinity of the existing pedestrian crossing.
  • Replacement and upgrade of existing footpaths that are damaged and/or do not meet current DDA requirements.

During construction some temporary traffic restrictions will be necessary, traffic management plans will be in place to minimise inconvenience whilst still allowing property access.

We will keep you updated about specific timings and about traffic management measures during the works via this page.
