Construction complete and path open to the public

We are pleased to announce that the works on the Minkarra Link Path are now complete, and the path was officially opened on Sunday 14 April 2024 at an event attended by Premier Peter Malinauskas, Erin Thompson MP and Mayor Moira Were.

The opening of the new Minkarra Park Link Path in Flagstaff Hill marks a significant milestone, as it connects two cherished trails and reserves, Black Road to Chandlers Hill Road, for the first time. This 700-meter shared-use path eliminates the barrier posed by the Flagstaff Hill Golf Club course, enhancing accessibility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists alike. The project included initiatives like weed control and revegetation that not only fosters connectivity but also enriches biodiversity and wildlife habitat. The path's design, featuring boardwalk sections and safety fencing, prioritises inclusivity and ease of access, promising further enhancements with upcoming revegetation efforts. Accessible from multiple points, the new link path promises to strengthen the community's bond with nature while promoting an active and healthy lifestyle.

Background

To provide a safe off-road connection for pedestrians and cyclists, we are connecting the northern and southern pathways of Minkarra Park between Black Road and Manning Road (refer to the map).

The existing northern section provides a trail loop entering from either Black Road or Reservoir Drive while the existing southern section provides a loop entering from Manning Road and connects to a skate park, exercise equipment, toilet, dog exercise park, reserves, and playgrounds.

We have been working closely with the Flagstaff Hill Golf Course, as sections of the trail will traverse the south-western boundary of golf course land bordering Happy Valley Drive.

With the support of Erin Thompson Member for Davenport, the state government is providing $1,000,000 funding towards this project.

Consultation on the path was undertaken in April and May 2023.
