Community engagement outcomes

31 October 2023

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the previous concept plan.

The project scope of work is to replace the decommissioned existing fitness equipment.

The outdoor fitness equipment was respectfully removed. This action was taken to acknowledge and honour the profound cultural significance of the Tjilbruke Dreaming Track marker to the Kaurna and other Aboriginal communities. The Tjilbruke Dreaming Track, an ancestral journey of great importance, features ten cultural markers along its coastal path, each celebrating the integral role of natural springs in its narrative. Our intention was to ensure that the marker at Port Noarlunga is preserved and respected in a manner that befits its cultural importance. We could not relocate the old equipment as originally planned due to its poor condition.

A summary of the changes based on the engagement feedback:

  • More stretching and aerobic elements to align with the existing ones, such as benches, push-up bars and steppers.
  • All proposed elements are on rubber softfall surfaces away from the existing garden beds.
  • All surrounding garden beds will be retained.

  • Not in scope due to the allocated budget:

  • Shade structure
  • Basketball / netball court
  • More moving equipment
  • Jogging/walking track
  • Trees for shade; unfortunately, trees won’t survive in this exposed coastal setting.

  • The project is expected to be delivered in the first half of 2024, with the commencement and completion dates to be announced once confirmed.
