Council previously approved $2,121,000 for stage 1 of the project through the 2025-26 budget process. The intent was to split the project over 2 stages to reduce the impact on rates.

Council was then successful in securing Government funding of $1,898,000 through the Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program (SLRIP) reducing Council's funding requirement to $1,900,000.

This has then enabled the project to be delivered in 1 stage and reduced the impact to rates.

With the project now combined into 1 stage it is anticipated that the project cost will be approved by Council through the 2026-27 Annual Budget processes, with a total project budget of $3,798,000, with Council contributing $1,900,00.

Based on the 2025-26 budget this would be 0.7832% of the overall budget. The project would be funded by rates income and equates to an estimated 1.066% of the overall rates collected, or $22.68 of your individual council rates.

Reconstruction of approximately 1.5km from the culvert west of property number 145 through to the new Main South Road seal.

Shoulder sealing of approximately 400m from Acacia Terrace to the culvert west of property number 145 to provide a consistent, safe road width from Main South Road to Aldinga.

Key works include:

• Reconstructing the road surface to a width of 9.5 metres, including 1.5-metre sealed shoulders and 3.25-metre traffic lanes.
• Replacing four guard rail terminal ends.
• Upgrading two bus stops at Stop 130 with formalised bus pads.
• New guard railing over the culvert just west of property number 145.
• Sealing of the shoulders from property number 145 through to Acacia Terrace.

These works may require traffic restrictions , follow this page to be kept updated with specific timings and details about traffic management measures during the works.

Access will be available for emergency service vehicles under the care of traffic management operators as required. During road closures, directly affected residents with specific needs will be accommodated for as best as possible.

Short term construction speed limits of 25 km/h will be applied adjacent and through the work zone. A permanent speed limit review is not included in the scope of this project.

Neither bike lanes nor a shared use path will be incorporated within this project. We will be increasing the sealed shoulder widths along the Norman Road works extent which will improve safety for on road cyclist, however it’s important to note this will not be a dedicated bicycle lane.

Due to the shoulder widening there will be some roadside swale works involved.

We’re not anticipating any tree removals at this stage, however tree pruning may be required within some locations.

There will be no anticipated impacts to existing roadside memorials within this project.
