Latest Update

The exciting upgrade of the Pine Drive Reserve, Aberfoyle Park has commenced.

View the final concept plan.

The upgrade consists of a variety of new play equipment including monkey bars, a fort incorporating slide and climbing opportunities, zipline and many more. New bench seats, seating boulders and a drinking fountain with dog bowl are is also included in this upgrade.

Work commenced on January 2023 and is expected to be complete by late June 2023.

During construction it will be necessary for areas of the reserve to be closed for public safety reasons.

Background

Pine Reserve on Pine Drive in Aberfoyle Park was identified for an upgrade.

An initial concept plan was developed for improvements to this reserve that look to retain the unique appeal Pine Reserve currently boasts. It incorporates various play elements such as giant swings, cableway, bouldering, rope play and canopy viewing hammocks!

The existing playground within the fenced area will remain.

There are a limited number of Radiata Pine trees marked for removal due to damage that has been caused to those tree trunks by the playground chains currently attached. This damage is impacting the overall health of the Pine trees. For each of the trees removed, we propose to plant 10 new trees within the wider reserve.

Upgrade of this reserve is proposed to be funded in the 2022-2023 financial year. Part of this funding will come from the Federal Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Round 3 Program, with the other portion coming from Council’s annual budget process (subject to Council approval).

Engagement was open from 14 June to 12 July 2022.

Thanks to everyone who provided feedback!

During the consultation, 927 people visited the Your Say page and 100 people provided feedback via the online survey. In addition, approximately 30 residents attended the onsite drop-in session.

We received many mixed opinions on the upgrade from community members, including:

    • “Need more equipment for younger children” vs “Need more equipment for older children”
    • “Leave the current playground as it is” vs “Glad to see the playground is being replaced as I no longer take my kids there as I don’t think it's safe”
    • “Wish there were more pine trees being removed” vs “Do not want any pines cut down”
    • “Love the look of it all” vs “Please leave it alone”

Here is what we heard through the consultation that we are now considering for inclusion (pending budget):

    • Add a slide to the playground.
    • Additional play piece in the existing toddler fenced playground.
    • Seek a solution to stop basketballs rolling down the hill.

Here is what was requested but will not be included due to being outside of the service standard for a neighbourhood family park:

    • Toilets will not be included as they are above the service standard for neighbourhood family parks. This park is aimed for use by residents who live within the local neighbourhood, for stays of 1-2 hours.

We are now finalising the design for the reserve upgrade.

Construction is estimated to take place in 2023.
