The Strategic Asset Management Plan outlines our 10-year asset management program, detailing the value, condition, and management of our assets, such as roads, parks, and community buildings.
It aligns with our Community Vision 2034, providing transparency on how we manage assets to meet community goals and improve financial sustainability. It is focused on renewing, restoring and improving what we have.
Between the 24 September and 20 October we engaged on the draft SAMP.
Key components of the draft SAMP:
- Asset condition, value, and maintenance needs.
- 10-year financial projections for asset management.
- Performance indicators linked to community goals.
- Risk management and opportunities for optimisation.
Recent updates to the SAMP focus on reducing debt and improving efficiency:
- Revised funding models for road renewals and sport and recreation assets.
- Adjustments for operational costs due to asset growth.
- Introduction of a 10-year project pipeline and future natural asset planning.
Given the capital value of our road infrastructure exceeds $1.1 billion, much of our focus is on effective road maintenance and renewal strategies, using methods like asphalt overlays and deep lift reconstruction. Our aim is to ensure longevity and safety for all users.
This review of the SAMP reflects our commitment to asset management best practices, meeting legislative requirements and aligning with our long-term financial goals.
The following amendments were made to the SAMP after engagement:
- Noting that the Buildings Renewal program includes funding from the Revolving Resources Fund and is now aligned to the LTFP.
- Providing further information regarding the process followed for the revocation of land.
The SAMP was adopted by Council at a Special Council meeting on the 19 November 2024.
