Multi-use Sports Building Redevelopment Proposal

The Port Noarlunga Sports Ground is used by the Port Noarlunga Football Club, Port Noarlunga Cricket Club, Port Noarlunga Netball Club and the Port Noarlunga Tennis Club.

Other groups also use the facilities for community music and social events such as South Coast Raw and the Blues Festival.

The site includes two existing club buildings as well a public toilet block and separate shelter structures for spectators along the edge of the oval.

Some of these building facilities are reaching the end of their asset life and no longer meet sport or building standards. Construction of a new multi-use building with direct frontage to the oval and courts commenced in January 2022.

The Proposal

The new building will provide vast improvements over the site’s existing facilities with a design that meets modern sporting facility guidelines, helping to promote female and junior participation in sport. Being positioned next to the oval and hard courts allows the new function space to have expansive views across all playing surfaces, offering improved site connectivity and a flexible layout to meet the diverse needs of user groups.

Construction of the facilities will include:

  • Four player change rooms with shower and toilet amenities
  • Two umpire change rooms
  • A medical room
  • An oval sport canteen
  • A court sport canteen
  • A kitchen and bar
  • A large multi-function room with amenities
  • Storage rooms
  • Offices
  • An external viewing deck

Current Project Status: Construction underway!

Council has awarded the building contract after successfully obtaining funding through the Local Government Infrastructure Partnership Program. Tied with Council’s contribution, we are pleased to announce that the new facility will be constructed over a single stage of development to provide improved outcomes for sporting groups and the local community.

Construction has now commenced! The works happening on site include site demolition, installation of slabs, erection of wall and roof framing, fixing cladding, paving, painting, and installation of services and lighting. The final stage of the project involves demolition of the old facility and converting that space into landscaping and a car park for the new facility.

Ultimately, our objective is to deliver a single multi-use sports building that services all current sports and responds to the anticipated sport and recreation needs of the community within this growth area in our City.

The Port Noarlunga Sports and Community Complex Redevelopment has been co-funded by the Government of South Australia’s Local Government Infrastructure Partnership Program.
