***IMPORTANT UPDATE ***
Port Noarlunga jetty repairs set to commence
We will begin repair works on the storm-damaged Port Noarlunga Jetty early next week, with the aim of reopening it to the public as soon as possible.
The jetty sustained significant damage during recent storm events, prompting an immediate closure to ensure public safety.
An engineering assessment has since confirmed the need to replace several elements, including girders, cross beams, decking and kickboards.
To minimise delays, the council fast-tracked procurement of the necessary hardwood materials, which have a lead time of approximately four weeks.
In parallel, we engaged a specialist marine contractor to confirm availability and work through construction methodology, given the risks associated with marine infrastructure repairs.
The council is aiming for completion of priority works by the end of August, weather permitting.
The Port Noarlunga jetty, built in 1921, is a state government asset leased to the council.
Under the lease agreement, the Department of Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) covers the cost of major storm repairs.
Planned work to upgrade five pylons as listed below, is currently being designed for delivery in early 2026, outside the peak summer period, to minimise disruption.
We thank the community for its patience and continued interest.
The Port Noarlunga Jetty is a much-loved community asset and to ensure its safety and longevity, we will be undertaking upgrades in the 2025-26 financial year.
Every effort will be made to avoid all peak usage seasons of the jetty and stakeholders will be informed of detailed construction time frames once they are confirmed.
We will advise of any access restrictions during construction, and attempt to minimise any inconvience to jetty users.
Why Are These Works Needed?
In August 2024, council conducted an above and below water condition inspection on the jetty. The inspection revealed that certain structural components of the timber jetty have deteriorated and require upgrading.
This will include the repair and strengthening of five existing timber pylons, along with the replacement or reinstatement of a series of cross beams and whaler beams.
Thank you for your patience as we complete these essential upgrade works.
