Project update
In March we sought feedback on the proposed upgrade to How Road, Aldinga. We spoke with residents of How Road and the broader community about their level of support for the concept plan.
We met with 18 residents living along How Road and received a further 16 responses to the online survey.
The concept plan was generally supported by the residents living along How Road, however there were concerns raised in relation to:
In response to this feedback Council is supportive of the concept plan and the developer Remen Nominees Pty Ltd will continue to engage with residents on when construction will take place.
In relation to the feedback relating to the need for a roundabout at the intersection of Aldinga Beach Road, a separate project related to this was included in the 2024-25 financial year list of projects.
Existing flooding from the overland flow path is being addressed by installing kerbs and collection pits on the new road and improving the outfall to Main South Road under the works being done by the Dept. of Transport. Further improvements will be planned as development of the area progresses.
Background
As part of a new development in Aldinga, we have requested the developer Remen Nominees Pty Ltd upgrade How Road to cater for the increase in traffic.
We sought resident feedback on plans to upgrade How Road between and including Starfish Drive and Aldinga Beach Road, Aldinga. Council recommended traffic calming devices in three locations, a footpath, and upright kerbs.
A draft concept plan was developed which complements the future intersection at Aldinga Beach Road currently being designed. This upgrade intends to ensure future traffic flows are managed and existing residents will have improved access. The draft concept plan includes the following:
- Removal of the existing pavement material and new materials provided to ensure that the longevity of the road meets council requirements.
- Upright kerb along the western edge and filling of the existing council stormwater swale, raising of communication pits and the installation of a number of side entry pits to capture stormwater from this side of the road and pipe it to the existing eastern swale. A concrete flush edging will be installed along the eastern side of the road.
- A new 1500mm wide washed aggregate footpath will be installed along the full length of the western side of the road to provide an increased and safer access for pedestrian and resident access.
- New brushed concrete driveway crossovers will be installed for all existing driveways. The crossovers will extend from the back of the kerb layback to the front boundary of the allotment(s).
- The inclusion of designed slow points, similar to that installed in the new Starfish Drive within stage 2 of the Aldinga Green development will reduce speed through this area will provide a safer resident experience.
