Hello I understand, the current large dog park before had issues with barren dirt, grass ripped up etc. Rough Bark was then put in its place again more issues, them the entire area replaced with sand, ( in my opinion again yet again another issue) After you leave the park, Sand get everywhere in our cars in our houses etc, why wasn't the suggestion to put in a hybrid synthetic/ Natural Grass, solution put in place as it was discussed in the meeting at the dog park with Council and our Labour Minister few months back, this would have solved the Barren dirt grass scenario, and we wouldn't have the Sand issues in our cars homes etc. I took Max (small Dog) there once since and haven't been back again Is this a Council issue not listening to their rate payers What is the agreement arrangement for the smaller Dog Park? More Sand ? Why isn't the large dog park bigger, this would minimise the surface issues regarding grass erosion, appropriate surface problem There is plenty of land for an extension to the large dog park, Can't say I will take Max back there again in a hurry🤔 As for the issues of heat on synthetic grass, Sand get extremely hot too

    Thanks for your enquiry.

We are unable to provide a hybrid synthetic/natural grass mix as our budget does not support this. Our experience with turf is that it is very difficult to maintain and having the synthetic mix does not alleviate the problem due to the high wear seen within dog parks. This experience is reflected in fenced dog parks across the metropolitan area.

The new park allocated for small dogs will be using sand in a small section and the rest of the park will remain as natural surface.

The existing park will be for all dogs and there are no plans to increase its size. We believe the current size is appropriate for the use that it will get.

I hope you are putting more car parking there as the road is very narrow ?

Thanks for your enquiry. We will monitor use of the carpark and any additions to car parking will be assessed by our Carpark Asset Planner.

Thankyou for planning to create a small dog park, hopefully only owners with small dogs will abide by this... maybe some signage will help? Like dogs only under a certain weight? Maybe 15 or 20kgs or something around that mark?. Only a thought, as i have taken my young 5 month old pup their 3 times times now to Dinton Park a nd he gets on well with smaller dogs but bigger dogs seem to intimidate a bit and he has been a bit timid of them... i really want him to mingle with other dogs without him being scared... thankyou.

Thanks for your enquiry. The separate park will allow a space for smaller timid dogs. At this stage we will await feedback from the community which will assist us in determining if signage is required, or if use can be more flexible and community managed.

I don't see how this is any different to the one that is in place. Is it? Is this park only for small dogs?

    Slr asked 9 months ago

Thanks for your enquiry. The extension is to provide a separate park for smaller timid dogs. The existing dog park at Dinton Farm Reserve was established in 2019 and it has been a single park for all size dogs. We now have funding to provide a separate park for small dogs which will allow a space for smaller timid dogs.

My question concerns the existing dog park. The existing paved area that has two benches/shelter, needs to be fenced with a magnetic gate because when people bring their dog and young children together, they usually the young children get knocked down by the dogs playing together. The park is a designated leash free dog park. I acknowledge this area is meant for the whole community. I've been talking to other dog owners that have no children and they agree that something needs to change. Having specified areas within both parts of the existing and new areas, need a small area within each section to have an a seperate fenced in section, where children and adults can be assured they will not be knocked over by dogs while they are accessing all leash free dog parks that the Onkaparinga Council has designated as a leash free park for dogs. without being knocked over and

Thanks for your question. The fenced area is for use by dogs. There is a playground area for children just outside of the dog park and dogs are prohibited there.

What about an area that retired Greyhounds can have a run around they have no where to exercise and you don't let be off the lead in normal dog parks.

    Thanks for your enquiry.

We don't have a dedicated space for retired Greyhounds, however ovals and beaches are a good space for Greyhounds.
