Consultation closed on 22 May 2022.

BACKGROUND

Our Community Plan 2030 aims to make our city a great place to live and visit by looking after our townships and tourism precincts, making them safe, welcoming and easy for people to access and travel between.

In line with this aim and feedback from local businesses and community, we are looking to reduce the speed limit from 50km/h to 40km/h in the townships of Christies Beach, Port Noarlunga and the adjoining Esplanade (supporting the Esplanade traffic calming works currently being undertaken). The changes will improve safety for people driving, riding and walking within and between the townships.

As the setting of speed limits falls under the delegation of Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT), we applied to DIT requesting they consider a proposal for 40km/h speed limit. DIT have responded and given in principle agreement.

Speed limit changes to apply to the following streets:

Esplanade - Between Saltfleet Street, Port Noarlunga and Sydney Crescent, Christies Beach

Christies Beach:

Sydney Crescent

Beach Road – between Esplanade and Overland Terrace

Port Noarlunga:

Saltfleet Street - between Esplanade and Clarke Street

Ward Street

Clarke Street (west)

Gawler Street - between Saltfleet Street and Gawler St/Gray St roundabout

Maps indicate proposed new speed limit sign locations.
