Concerns have been raised by the Craigburn Primary School community regarding the speed of vehicles travelling along Murrays Hill Road, especially during busy drop-off and pick-up times. In response, we are proposing to install traffic calming along a section of the road in front of the school. Traffic calming is used to slow down cars and make roads safer for everyone, especially people walking, biking, and crossing the street.

The draft concept plan shows where we are proposing to install a series of speed cushions on a 250m section of Murrays Hill Road along the school’s frontage. Speed cushions are a form of road hump that occupies only part of the roadway and are designed to be more sympathetic to cyclists and buses when compared to a standard full-width road hump.

In addition to the traffic calming elements, our project also proposes to install concrete median islands to enhance the guidance of vehicles around the curve to the north of the school crossing, as well as improve the right turn lane for vehicles from the north entering the school’s pick up and drop off area.

More information about the proposed devices and locations can be found in the fact sheet.

The project is currently scheduled for delivery in the 2025–26 financial year, with funding anticipated through the Black Spot Program. While a grant application has been submitted, the timing and delivery of the project will depend on the outcome of that application. If the grant is not successful, the project is expected to proceed in the 2026–27 financial year using council’s Project and Capital Works budget, subject to budget approval.
