We’re recently sought your feedback on the draft Waste Strategic Management Plan 2025–2030.

Thanks to everyone who provided feedback. We'll share the outcomes with you soon.

Background

This plan sets the direction for how we manage waste over the next five years. It aims to reduce waste going to landfill, improve recycling, support a cleaner city, and guide our transition to a circular economy, where resources are reused for as long as possible.

Our waste services touch the lives of every resident and business. This plan is our roadmap for delivering efficient, sustainable, and community-focused waste services.

The draft Waste Strategic Management Plan 2025-30 has been informed through community feedback, environmental best practice, federal and state government targets, waste industry requirements, and continuous improvement.

Four strategic objectives guide the action plan:

  • Increasing diversion from landfill

Improve recycling, collect more food waste and help people understand what goes in which bin

  • Improving amenity

Keep our streets, parks and public spaces clean by reducing litter, stopping illegal dumping and improving public bin services

  • Optimising operations and customer experience

Improve efficiency and reliability with better customer service, smarter use of data and fairer bin service standards

  • Maximise recovery and support the circular economy

Reuse more, recycle more and support reuse and repair initiatives and move towards a circular economy
