Compact roundabout and teardrop engagement

11 January 2024

We recently sought feedback on the upcoming road improvements and changes at two intersections. One is the intersection of Main Road, Johnston Road, and McMurtrie Road, where 'teardrop' islands will be added on side road approaches. This aims to increase awareness of the intersection by disrupting the current direct crossing. We are also working with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport to investigate a speed reduction from 80km/hr to 60km/hr on McMurtrie Road for the first 200 metres to increase safety for pedestrians in the area.

The other upgrade is a compact roundabout at the junction of Chalk Hill Road, Olivers Road, and Field Street. Roundabouts are chosen for their safety benefits and simplified decision-making for drivers. A 'compact roundabout' model will be adopted, using raised safety platforms to slow down vehicles, reducing costs and land acquisition.
