Proposed change information

Current restriction

  • Various restrictions in place but none in bushland area.

Proposed restriction

  • Dogs on-leash at all times throughout bushland and walking trails.

Signage

  • Proposed restrictions identified by signs at each entrance, five signs are proposed for this site.

Compliance

  • Compliance will be subject to customer reports of non-compliance and investigated by a ranger.

Rationale

  • We have over 400 reserves including three dedicated fenced off-leash dog parks. This reserve includes our first fenced dog park with separate small and large dog exercise areas where dogs may be off-leash and under effective control.
  • Significant flora species have been identified in this reserve, part of which is cared for by Bush For Life program volunteers. It provides important habitat for native wildlife and is also a place for recreation, education, tourism, relaxation and sometimes spiritual connections, in short, a place for everyone! Finding a balance is important to minimise the impact on the conservation areas.
  • Visitors to the park are still provided with a fenced area where they can exercise off-leash for large and small dogs.
  • New access trails will attract more visitors to the park and including dog walkers.
  • The controls will support the extensive work done to connect new access trail through the Flagstaff Hill Golf Club.
  • Contains high diversity flora and fauna. A recent bird survey identified 29 bird species, including two species that are listed as vulnerable in this region.
