CPI update

Councils are required to release their draft Annual Business Plan and Budget for community engagement within legislated timeframes.

To meet these deadlines, Council uses the most recent Consumer Price Index (CPI) data available at the time, with updates made prior to adoption if newer data is released.

The draft budget noted that it would be updated once the March CPI figures for Adelaide became available, ensuring the most up-to-date information is considered.

At the time the draft was released for consultation, the December CPI figure for Adelaide was 3.3 per cent.

The March 2026 CPI for Adelaide has since been released at a higher than expected 4.9 per cent.

CPI is one of several factors used to inform the budget. The final rate increase will be determined by Council at the time of adoption.
