Engagement outcomes and final concept plan

During the consultation 249 people visited the Your Say page and twenty-nine people provided feedback on the playground design through the Your Say online survey, on-site drop-in session and door knocking. The feedback received showed the majority of participants (79%) were happy with the proposed design with many suggestions and requests also made.

Noting the feedback we received, the concept plan has been updated with the following key changes made in keeping with the park’s designation as a Local Family Park and the project budget:

  • The playground will remain in its current location on the northern side of the reserve, has been expanded to include more play elements and will be fully fenced with two access gates
  • Additional irrigated space and coastal native garden beds have been included on the southern side of the reserve
  • Inground trampolines removed from the plan and more swings, including a hanging roundabout monsoon swing added.

Mixed feedback was received during the engagement regarding the inclusion of shade structures and trees. After further investigation the proposed shade structures have been removed from the final concept plan.

The final concept plan is available to view here.

The upgrade is expected to be undertaken within the 2024-25 financial year subject to approval through council’s annual budget process.

Background

Exciting news! The playground at the reserve on the Esplanade (adjacent Wembley Street), Port Noarlunga South has been identified for an upgrade.

We have developed a draft concept plan that includes new tree planting, an extended irrigated turf area, new playground fencing, new coastal themed playspace, additional seating and permanent umbrellas. Recognised as a Local Family Park in the Open Space Strategic Management Plan 2018-23, these upgrades aim to elevate your park enjoyment.

Engagement on the draft concept plan was undertaken in October 2023.

The upgrade is expected to be undertaken within the 2024-25 financial year subject to approval through the City of Onkaparinga’s annual budget process.
