On 4 April 2023 the Strategic Directions Committee noted the outcomes of research and community engagement on the use of Frank Smith Park oval for lower impact sport. The committee approved further community engagement on amending the Sportsground Community Land Management Plan to include the oval area in Frank Smith Park to allow lower impact organised sport, in accordance with section 198 of the Local Government Act 1999.

Engagement to establish community sentiment on amending the Sportsground Community Land Management Plan to include Frank Smith Park oval will be undertaken later this year.
