Community engagement outcomes

6 November 2023

There was strong support for a dog park in this location, with the following common themes identified through the engagement feedback and included in the revised concept design:

  • Change bark chips surface to irrigated turf.
  • Increase the size of the dog park fence area (from 3000 sqm to 4300 sqm).
  • Additional dog park entry on the western side.
  • Additional leash hanging zone.
  • Additional dog activities with agility equipment.
  • Increase tree planting for shade and natural amenities.

  • We also appreciate the community feedback that requested a number of additional items that cannot be provided in the current scope of work due to budget constraints, including:

  • Upgrade to the skate park and playground.
  • New lighting.
  • Car park expansion.
  • BBQ facility.
  • Sports courts, including basketball, tennis, and football goals.

  • We also appreciate community feedback about the proposed new public toilet facility. Council’s Open Space Strategic Management Plan (OSSMP) sets the hierarchy and level of services provided at all parks and reserves within the City of Onkaparinga. The OSSMP identifies John Hurtle Potter Reserve as a District Active Park, and this service level includes provision of a public toilet. The final design for the new dog park includes the new public toilet facility to support use of this reserve as a District Active Park. The design of the toilet is currently underway.

Thanks again to everyone that provided feedback on this important community project. This feedback will ensure a better upgrade and valuable asset for our community. For construction timing and to stay updated, please follow the project page.
