Places recommended for listing as Local Heritage Places

Heritage significance

33 Cut Hill Road, Kangarilla is of local significance as a mid-19th century cottage dwelling with associated outbuildings dating to an important period of development for the district and providing a strong contribution to the Kangarilla historic streetscape. The residence is closely associated with William Threadgold (1827-1902) who was likely responsible for much of the site’s mid-19th century fabric, and the Dowling family, prominent 20th century Kangarilla residents who resided at the property between 1909-1972, a period of more than sixty years.

Extent of listing

The extent of listing includes form and materials of all surviving masonry fabric to the mid-19th century cottage and outbuildings, including all external walls, quoins, surrounds and dressings, chimneys and window & door openings.

All hipped and gabled roof forms and surviving early timber window and door elements are considered of significance and included in the listing. not included in the listing.

Heritage significance

The Kangarilla Grandstand, 1988-1992 Kangarilla Road, Kangarilla is of significance as the township of Kangarilla’s oval grandstand, pavilion and change rooms since construction in 1924. The Grandstand was constructed using funds and materials donated by local residents and has been in continuous usage since construction.

Extent of listing

The extent of listing includes the form and materials of all physical fabric relating to the 1924 construction of the Kangarilla Grandstand, including all early masonry fabric.

The form of the timber-framed roof construction and corrugated steel cladding is considered of significance and is included in the listing.

Recommended amendment

Inclusion of the outbuilding, timber hitching posts and 19th century gravestones in the extent of the existing Local Heritage listing for 1 McLaren Flat Road, Kangarilla.

Heritage significance

The Kangarilla Uniting Church is of significance as an early local landmark, meeting place and place of worship for the district.

The Kangarilla Uniting Church’s surviving outbuilding walls, hitching posts and surviving gravestones, now included in the updated listing, are representative of developments of the township from the mid-19th century.

Extent of listing

External form and materials of the c.1858 chapel with later additions. Form and materials of early outbuilding masonry walls, timber hitching posts and 19th century gravestones.
