Respondent Demographics

• Seventy-six per cent of respondents were non-motorised vessel owners.

• Eighteen per cent of respondents were motorised boat owners.

• Five per cent of respondents were personal water craft (PWC) owners.

Top five suburbs where participants live

• Thirty-seven per cent of respondents live in Aldinga Beach.

• Fourteen per cent of respondents live in Sellicks Beach.

• Five per cent of respondents live in Aldinga, Port Willunga and Willunga.

Concerns

• Sixty-eight per cent of non-motorised vessel owners and thirty-six per cent of boat owners were very concerned about the presence of motorised vessels at Aldinga Beach and/or Sellicks Beach.

• Seventy per cent of PWC owners were not concerned about the presence of motorised vessels at Aldinga Beach and/or Sellicks Beach.

Issues

Our analysis revealed that many people experienced both safety and nuisance issues in their comments. As a result, we recalculated the data to provide a more accurate reflection of the issues experienced with motorised vessels while at the beach.

• Sixty-eight per cent of non-motorised vessel owners and sixty-one per cent of boat owners experienced safety issues with motorised vessels at Aldinga Beach and/or Sellicks Beach.

• Seventy-seven per cent of PWC owners did not experience any issues with motorised vessels at Aldinga Beach and/or Sellicks Beach.

Survey options:

Option A: The body of water highlighted in gold on the map, 200m seaward from the low water mark from Morgan Street and Norman Road, Aldinga Beach.

Option B: The body of water highlighted in red on the map, 200m from the low water mark between Dingo Road and Norman Road, Aldinga Beach.

Option C: The body of water highlighted in blue on the map, 200m from the low water mark from Norman Road, Aldinga Beach to Sellicks Beach Road, Sellicks Beach.

Option D: All of the above options.

Option E: None of the above options; maintain current permissions.

Multiple answers were permitted for this question however, where participants selected Options A, B, and/or C along with Option D, only Option D was counted as the response.

Results:

• Seventy-two per cent of non-motorised vessel owners and forty-eight per cent of boat owners selected Option D as their preferred option for where motorised vessels should be excluded.

• Eighty per cent of PWC owners selected Option E as their preferred option.
