Community Feedback

The purpose of community engagement was to ensure stakeholders were aware of the project and the proposed concept plan to upgrade the intersection of How Road and Aldinga Beach Road with installation of a dual lane roundabout and to also understand any local issues that should be considered throughout design.

The engagement techniques used for this project included presenting information via the Your Say Onkaparinga platform, door knocking affected residents on Aldinga Beach Road and How Road, emailing residents and community groups who had previously registered via Your Say Onkaparinga and sending letters to surrounding properties.

While engagement was open, the project team attended 10 properties on Aldinga Beach Road and How Road and 563 people visited the Your Say Onkaparinga page. Of the properties visited 8 residents were home and provided feedback on the project and an additional 75 comments were received via Your Say Onkaparinga.

The findings through community engagement are summarised below:

• All of residents that were contacted through door knocking are in support of the project with two residents stating support if issues raised could be addressed.
• 60% of the total feedback through Your Say Onkaparinga feedback tool showed support the project and 12% do not support the project. The remaining feedback was mixed or neutral.
• Common concerns expressed during the feedback period were in regard to bottlenecking at the roundabout and disruptions to the local community and businesses.

Common themes from the survey feedback included:

• The suitability and future proofing of the roundabout.
• Bottlenecking concerns.
• Capability with traffic volume increases.

The survey feedback also proposed inclusions to the concept plan including:

• Roundabout size, heavy vehicle suitability and visibility and traffic lights over a roundabout.
• Dedicated left turning lanes, especially out of How Road (North and South) and parking along Aldinga Beach Road.
• Shared Use Path along How Road (North and South).
• Slip lane from Aldinga Beach Road into businesses west of the roundabout
