Background

In 2017, we set targets to increase our urban tree canopy and green cover and you’ll see much more greenery in the coming years. To help us assess just where to plant, we’ve mapped hot spots, tree numbers and canopy size across our urban area.

Since setting our targets, we've already planted over 58,000 trees in streets, parks and reserves and are continually advocating to the state government around better planning laws and regulations for trees.

On Earth Day 2024 we launched a brand new partnership to encourage the community to plant a tree and leave a lasting legacy for future generations - One Tree Per Child Onkaparinga. With 74 per cent of Onkaparinga being privately owned land it's important that we encourage everyone to get planting to increase habitat and cool our region.

This year we held our first community tree giveaway, with 1000 trees provided to residents and another 500 to local schools.
