Final Regional Climate Action Plan (ReCAP)

3 April 2024

Following community engagement on the draft Regional Climate Action Plan (ReCAP) in November 2023, the final plan was adopted by the Cities of Holdfast Bay, Marion, Mitcham and Onkaparing in February and March 2024 and formally launched by the four Mayors and Deputy Premier on 28 March.

The ReCAP was developed in consultation with our community, elected members and stakeholder groups, and builds on our previous Regional Climate Change Adaptation Plan 2014-19.

The new plan coordinates the activities and investments of the Resilient South partners for the next five years (2024-2029) and is focused on what can be achieved by the Resilient South partners, including identifying opportunities to work with other organisations. It also provides a blueprint for stakeholders, particularly businesses and community organisations, to work with Resilient South on improving disaster readiness in relation to heatwaves, fire and flood emergencies.

The finalisation of the ReCAP renews the partnership between the four participating councils and the state government, aimed at strengthening resilience to climate change in the southern Adelaide region, until 2029.

The ReCAP contains 49 actions across four focal areas:

- Growing cooler, greener, biodiverse environments
- Creating climate resilient neighbourhoods
- Transitioning towards a low-carbon region
- Reducing climate risk

These actions are designed to be pragmatic and outcome-focused, highlighting areas where it makes sense to work together.
