Significant milestones have been achieved and the project is now approximately 90 percent complete.

✅ The large feature shelter and seating area overlooking the Onkaparinga River has been installed, creating a welcoming and functional space for visitors.
Turf has been laid and new trees have been planted, complemented by irrigation systems to enhance the site’s natural appeal and sustainability.

✅ The toilet installation is progressing well, with final fit-out underway.

Sand placement at the riverbank was recently completed improving the aquatic launch area.

What's next?

🔹 completion of toilet
🔹 planting native shrubs and ground covers
🔹 sealing the new car park and upgrade Wearing Street (from Mann Street to riverbank)

Planning to enhance and create an engaging cultural space in the dune area adjacent the new Wearing Street aquatic facilities is also underway. This work seeks to:

  • celebrate the rich Aboriginal cultural heritage of the location, and
  • educate visitors and provide meaningful experiences that foster appreciation of Kaurna culture and knowledge

A ceremony to launch the completion of stage 2 riverbank works is scheduled for Friday 2 May 2025 from 3pm. We look forward to celebrating transformation of this unique area into a premier destination for aquatic activities and community enjoyment.

We appreciate the community’s interest and look forward to sharing more updates as the project nears completion.
