Council resolution and next steps

21 May 2025

At the meeting on 20 May 2025, Council considered the feedback received through community engagement. An overview of the full engagement results can be viewed on the engagement outcomes page.

Overall, sentiment from the 574 survey responses was in support of introducing a Personal Water Craft (PWC / Jet Ski) exclusion zone as opposed to a general motorised vessel exclusion zone. Most non-motorised vessel owners (72 per cent) and boat owners (48 per cent) supported an exclusion zone for the areas highlighted in gold, red and blue on the map below; from Morgan Street Aldinga Beach to Sellicks Beach Road, Sellicks Beach. Eighty per cent of PWC owners did not support an exclusion zone.

At the meeting Council resolved to:

1.Note the Community Engagement Feedback Report.

2.Invite the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) to consider an application for a Personal Water Craft (PWC) exclusion zone 200m from the low water mark adjacent Morgan Street, Aldinga Beach to Sellicks Beach Road, Sellicks Beach; with an exemption for surf lifesaving vessels operating under the direction of the Aldinga Bay Surf Life Saving Club (Option D).

Next Steps

  • Write to DIT inviting them to consider an application for a PWC exclusion zone as detailed above.
  • DIT will consider our application and undertake their own consultation with registered boat and PWC owners before making their recommendations to the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport.
  • If an exclusion zone is approved by state government, amendments to the Regulations and monitoring and compliance costs will be borne by DIT. Council’s community safety officers will act in a supportive role to any changes.
