Project outcomes

30 September 2024

We asked the community to share their thoughts on the Aldinga Beach Road and How Road proposed roundabout concept plan through in person meetings and an online survey.

In response to the community feedback, we will continue to construction stage of the dual lane roundabout intersection upgrade. The concept plan will be delivered with minor changes, including working with stakeholders to find an appropriate solution for access in and out of the site at 12/76 How Road, Aldinga Beach.

Construction is scheduled to commence 1 October 2024.

For full details of the engagement outcomes refer to Engagement Outcomes.

In reply to feedback gathered during engagement we provide the following responses

Roundabout size, suitability for heavy vehicles and why we didn’t go with traffic lights.

Based on assessment of projected traffic volumes, we determined that a dual lane roundabout was the most suitable option, please see our FAQ’s for more information and why traffic signals aren’t being installed. The design has accounted for heavy vehicles with the roundabout catering to heavy vehicles up to B-Doubles in size.

CFS remaining operational, impacts to residents, businesses, and general disruptions to the community.

We are working closely with the CFS and will maintain full operational access to the emergency service. Disruptions to the community will be inevitable during the construction phase of this project, please see our FAQ’s for more information on road closures and disruptions.

Slip lane into 12/76 How Road from Aldinga Beach Road and Land acquisition.

We are working with the stakeholders of 12/76 How Road, to design an appropriate solution for access in and out of their site, including access for 19m semi trucks for fuel deliveries. Some land acquisitions were required to accommodate the intersection upgrade on the southeast and northwest corners.

Shared Use Path along How Road and integration.

Our design includes path on all sides of the roundabout, including four pedestrian crossings. The Shared Use Pathway (SUP) on the northern side of Aldinga Beach Road will link into the Fleurieu Connections Alliance’s (FCA) SUP which will run the length of Main South Road through to Sellicks Beach. There are no current plans for a SUP along How Road.
